My name is Maxwell. I like writing and movies and sports and stuff.
From Chicago and based in New York, I am a writer, director, producer, and podcaster exploring new opportunities to expand my skills and collaborate on exciting things.
I “developed my craft” (as they say) as an undergrad at Macalester College and a grad student at Stony Brook University, and enjoy exploring the humorous side of the world in unique blends of genre and tone. The bleak, the absurd, the satirical, and the profoundly silly. Thrillers, sci-fi, indies, docs, and rom-coms. As long as there’s a strong voice and distinct point of view, I’m into it.
Most recently, I wrote and produced a feature documentary about the rise and fall Alfa Music, a Japanese label from the 1970s and ’80s that was foundational to international popular music and showcased artists like Yellow Magic Orchestra, Yumi Matsutoya, Casiopea, and Minako Yoshida. The film is in post-production.
I’ve produced short films, music videos, Youtube series, and interview features, as well as pursuing my own scripted work.
Additionally, I co-host an independent podcast called Any Given Thursday that covers all things UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League. We engage with lesser-known corners of global footballing (or soccer, fine) culture. Sometimes we’ll even talk basketball. Exciting, eh?
If you have new collaboration or employment opportunities –– or you just want to chat about Coen Brothers movies, comedy, sports, or perhaps Robert Caro’s 6-billion page Lyndon Johnson series –– please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Cheers.
